La Costa as an area refers to both the world famous La Costa Resort and Spa--as well as a group of neighborhoods located in South Carlsbad that generally surround the La Costa Golf Course. Homes in La Costa range from a wide variety of condo choices to large new homes to ocean view estates to older homes on larger lots.

Relocation to La Costa can be a tricky proposition if schools are an issue, because La Costa is served by three different school districts: Carlsbad Unified School District, San Marcos Unified School District and the Encinitas Union/San Dieguito School Districts. All too often, home buyers and even some agents erroneously assume there is a "La Costa School District," when in fact there is no such thing.
